USCPD presence increased around SJMC after threats, assault; students say they were unaware

The University of South Carolina Police Department has increased its presence around the School of Journalism and Mass Communications in the days following an incident on Sept. 21.

A male former graduate student entered the building and asked students where senior instructor Rick Peterson was. The individual left because Peterson was unavailable, but said he would come back for him, senior instructor Andy Burns told The Daily Gamecock.

Fourth-year broadcast journalism student Karleigh Gorman, a white woman, said the individual questioned students in the broadcast journalism capstone course and called her a racial obscenity…
