Double-cross diamond intersection in Lexington now open at key New Circle Road exit

Lexington’s second double-cross diamond intersection opened near a busy New Circle Road exit Sunday night, and will increase safety and traffic flow in the area, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The new intersection in the New Circle and Leestown roads corridor opened one day ahead of schedule. The transportation cabinet said crews completed several remaining tasks to open the intersection, including placing approximately 3,100 tons of asphalt to establish the new roadway grades, activating the traffic lights and installing permanent pavement markings and signs.

“Opening this interchange is a significant step forward for the New Circle Road corridor and for the thousands of people who travel through this area every day,” KYTC District 7 Chief Engineer Kelly Baker said in a news release. “Our crews accomplished a tremendous amount of work over the weekend to make this transition possible.”
