Michael Fitzer didn’t plan on becoming a filmmaker. He planned on becoming a dentist. That lasted right up until organic chemistry shut the door, and somewhere between Panama, Washington D.C., and a career pivot that sounds accidental but probably wasn’t, Louisville’s film scene picked him up instead.
“I just could not pass organic chemistry, so the film community got me instead,” he says.
Three decades later, he’s still here, still shooting, still chasing stories that matter. That part, at least, was always the plan. Or maybe the instinct…
