LOCAL HEROES: Portage man’s invention is making motorcycle riding more disability-friendly

PORTAGE, Mich. — A Portage resident invented a “Personal Terrain Vehicle” (PTV) for those with disabilities or mobility restrictions to enjoy his former hobby of motorcycle riding.

Nerve damage in his hand caused Mark Jozwicki to hang up his helmet after years of motorcycling.

“It was time to give up the two-wheeler, and that was kind of sad,” Jozwicki said.

Wanting to build something he could enjoy, Jozwicki retired from engineering and set out to build a first-of-its-kind PTV equipped with three wheels and 125 cc’s to reach speeds of up to 40 MPH. The PTV is compatible both on and off the road…
