Man charged after woman critically shot at S. Main apartments

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was taken into custody and charged after a shooting at a downtown apartment building left a woman in critical condition Wednesday night.

Travis Carter, 42, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, false reporting, domestic assault, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

According to police, just before 6 p.m., officers responded to the shooting at The Chisca in the 200 block of S. Main Street.

MPD stated that preliminary information suggests this was an accidental self-inflicted shooting; however, Carter was detained.
