(NewsNation) — A former upstate New York firefighter faces animal cruelty charges after a cat died following an attempted rescue with a hose.
On Oct. 3, 2025, Douglas McPherson was dispatched to assist a cat that was stuck in a tree, according to a release from Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester.

Video from the incident shows McPherson using a “high-powered hose” to remove the cat, which resulted in it falling from the tree and suffering injuries that led to its death, according to the release.
McPherson has been charged with torturing and injuring animals. If convicted, he could face a year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine, local outlet WHAM reports…
