WEATHER AWARE: Strong cold front threatens severe storms and flash floods

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) —Tonight we are WEATHER AWARE as a strong cold front brings a threat of severe storms. Severe storms are already developing across Mississippi and Alabama this evening.

Timing: Storms will begin to enter East Alabama counties by 7PM CT/8PM ET tonight. Columbus will see the first storms before midnight. From midnight to 8AM ET, storms push south of Columbus and slows down, adding a greater risk for local flash flooding. With this system, we are set to see multiple rounds of storms.

Main risks:

  • Flash flooding (primary concern): Heavy rain in a short time can overwhelm roads and low-lying areas.
  • Isolated damaging winds: Strong gusts could knock down trees or power lines.
  • Tornado risk: Not the main threat, but still possible in isolated spots.

Behind this front: An unsettled pattern will linger through the weekend, with scattered showers and storms possible through next Monday. The good news: we are not looking at severe weather. Temperatures will sit in the upper 70s/ low 80s through the middle of next week…
