COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting and a string of carjackings that occurred in late April.
Authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Bobby Beaird. He was taken into custody in east Alabama before being extradited to Columbus to face several felony charges stemming from multiple violent incidents.
According to police, the investigation began on April 24 when officers were called to the intersection of Irwin Way and Ida Drive around 3:11 a.m. regarding a person shot. Police arrived to find a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to Piedmont Columbus Regional in critical condition.
Detectives eventually linked Beaird to that shooting, as well as an attempted carjacking during the same incident. He now faces several charges related to that night, including:
- Armed robbery
- Aggravated assault
- Criminal attempt to commit hijacking of a motor vehicle
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
Further investigation tied Beaird to a separate carjacking that took place on April 20 at Southside Court Apartments. He faces additional charges of first-degree hijacking of a motor vehicle and firearm possession for that case…
