Bluffton Road Bridge fully reopens following lengthy project

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After more than a year of construction, drivers saw relief this week from traffic jams on the Bluffton Road Bridge.

Construction began in early 2025 on the bridge over the St. Marys River. The heavily-traveled stretch of road on the city’s southwest side is a critical connector between Broadway and Bluffton Road. It makes travel more accessible to other parts of town, nearby neighborhoods, and attractions such as The Clyde Theatre, Indian Village and Foster Park.

Wednesday, drivers regained access to all four lanes and pedestrians were able to explore the nearby trails without running into cones or hearing the beeps of construction trucks.

The federally funded project replaced the supports on the bridge to enhance safety and generally improve travel for drivers and pedestrians alike. The bridge no longer has a restriction of a maximum 12-ton load for trucks to look out for. The project also worked on updating the intersection of Broadway and Bluffton Road…
