The onion volcanoes are about to stop erupting on Preston Road. Jinbeh, the sushi and hibachi restaurant that has anchored a Frisco shopping center for 23 years, will permanently close its doors on August 16, 2026, leaving tableside teppanyaki fans in the city without their longtime go-to spot.
The family-owned chain announced the closure in a social media post, according to Community Impact. Jinbeh’s Frisco restaurant, located at 2693 Preston Road, Suite 1040, has served tableside hibachi, sushi, egg rolls, spring rolls, fried rice, noodle dishes, and sashimi samplers since the location opened in 2003. In the announcement, the restaurant thanked its customers directly: “We are grateful for every one of you. Every anniversary, every first date, every table of kids watching the onion volcano for the very first time.”
Jinbeh’s roots in North Texas stretch back to 1988, when founder Ben Matsuda opened the original location in Las Colinas after emigrating from Japan. The restaurant’s name comes from a feudal Japanese peasant surname, chosen to symbolize humility, honesty, and hard work, per the same account cited by Community Impact. Matsuda later expanded to Lewisville in 1999 and then to Frisco, and his daughter, Aya Matsuda, took over operations of all Jinbeh locations in 2003, immediately after graduating from college, running the family business in consultation with her father.
One Location Left Standing
With the Frisco restaurant shutting down, Jinbeh’s sole remaining operational location will be its Lewisville venue at 2440 South Stemmons Freeway near the former Vista Ridge Mall, according to information posted by Jinbeh. That site has been running since 1999, making it the elder of the two locations even as Frisco prepares to go dark…
