New affordable housing units open in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A new affordable housing development is now open in northwest Jackson, as city leaders work to expand access to rental options for lower-income families.

Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Woodcrest Apartments, located near I-220 at Northside Drive and Medgar Evers Boulevard, on Wednesday.

The development added 64 units and is intended to help ease the city’s ongoing shortage of affordable housing. City leaders said the need for affordable housing remains a major issue in Jackson and across Mississippi.

“We need housing in Jackson, Mississippi. I’ve been involved, as Alison mentioned, in housing just because I see such a great need in Mississippi as it relates to having high quality, affordable housing for our citizens. And there’s a dearth of that not only in Jackson, but throughout Mississippi,” said Jackson Mayor John Horhn.
