Heat is changing how schools and city services operate across Lexington

Fayette County Public Schools is canceling and limiting outdoor activities because of a National Weather Service heat advisory and Lexington’s Phase One Heat Plan.

For elementary and middle school students, all after-school outdoor activities have been canceled. At the high school level, outdoor practices and events are restricted and can only take place after 7 p.m.

During the hottest parts of the day, schools are moving recess and P.E. classes indoors when possible or adjusting activities to keep students out of the heat…
