Arkansas Game and Fish officials warn about increasing spring bear activity

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are warning residents of the Natural State to be watchful for what they are calling an “un-bear-able” situation.

Officials said that spring is when young male black bears are on the move, seeking new territory. On occasion, this means a bear turns up in the wrong place, although they often move alone when people don’t give them a reason to stay, officials said.

Officials explained that young male bears are two when they’re forced to leave their mother and find their own territory.

“This is how nature enables bear populations to expand and protects against inbreeding,” AGFC Bear Program coordinator Spencer Daniels said. “The young males look for new suitable habitat, and the top priority is finding ample food resources.”…
