MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis Police Department has arrested and charged a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise.
According to the affidavit, between August 27 and August 31, Justin McGee, 19, was one of a group of suspects who went on a five-day shoplifting spree across Memphis.
McGee is accused of stealing from the following store locations throughout the month of August:
Here is how the crime spree unfolded:
- August 27 (Marshall’s, Covington Pike): McGee and another suspect walked in with trash bags, stuffed them with about $450 worth of Nike socks, and ran out. Security cameras caught their faces.
- August 28 (Marshall’s, Germantown Pkwy): McGee and a second suspect pulled trash bags from their waistbands and filled them with backpacks, bags, underwear, and Nike clothes worth $2,106 before fleeing. Loss prevention watched them do it, and security cameras recorded the theft.
- August 29 (Ulta Beauty, Germantown Pkwy): This time, McGee and two other men hit the store. Two of them stuffed trash bags with $6,786 worth of perfume and other beauty products, while the third stood guard as a lookout. They escaped in a white SUV, and security cameras captured the heist.
- August 30 (Marshall’s, Covington Pike): Once again, McGee and two others returned to the first Marshall’s location with trash bags, packed them with $1,800 worth of merchandise, and ran. Security cameras caught them on tape.
- August 31 (Circle K, Germantown Pkwy): McGee and two other suspects grabbed $21 worth of alcohol and fled in a white Lexus SUV.
After reviewing surveillance footage from all five stores, officers realized the same suspects were behind all of the thefts…
