(KRON) — A 29-year-old driver is facing criminal charges following a crash in San Bruno over the weekend that killed his 22-year-old passenger, according to authorities.
The San Bruno Police Department responded at 12:51 a.m. Sunday to El Camino Real near Interstate 380 on the report of a solo-vehicle crash. Arriving officers found a car severely damaged after it collided with a light pole.
The two occupants of the car, a 29-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, both San Francisco residents, sustained major injuries in the crash and were rushed to the hospital. The passenger later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators determined that the driver was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs at the time of the deadly collision, San Bruno PD said. He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on charges including gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs causing great bodily injury or death, and possession of a controlled substance.
