Mom accuses Ocala hospital of botching delivery, permanently injuring baby

A mother has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against an Ocala hospital, an obstetrician, and two nurses, alleging that their severe negligence during the woman’s labor resulted in catastrophic and permanent disabilities to her infant.

Karen Moran Sosa filed the complaint individually and on behalf of her minor child, Y.C.M., against Florida Hospital Ocala, Inc. (doing business as AdventHealth Ocala), Dr. Michelle Wood, Kristina Marsh, R.N., and Nicole Carrier, R.N. on May 13.

According to the lawsuit, Sosa, 27, presented to AdventHealth Ocala (1500 SW 1st Avenue) on November 17, 2023, experiencing contractions at 38 weeks and 3 days of gestation. She was evaluated in triage and admitted for labor under the care of her obstetrician, Dr. Wood, who assumed care late that evening at exactly 11:24 p.m…
