Marion County commissioners will hold a second and final public hearing on Monday before issuing a vote on a proposed addition to the land development code that would restrict locations of smoke, vape, and kratom shops so they aren’t within 1,500 feet of a school, daycare, church, or public park.
The proposed ordinance, designated as Section 4.3.30 and titled “Smoke and Vape Shops,” establishes mandatory buffer distances around local schools, daycare centers, places of worship, public parks, and existing smoke shops.
Growth Services Deputy Director Kenneth Weyrauch will present the proposed language, which advanced to this final hearing following an initial review by the Board of County Commissioners on August 26.
