TriMet warns of major service changes starting Aug. 23

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Portland’s public transit agency TriMet is urging riders to plan ahead for significant service changes taking effect Sunday, Aug. 23, as it works to address a $158 million long-term budget deficit.

TriMet said its website, trimet.org, has been updated with details on this year’s adjustments, which will affect 33 bus lines and the MAX Green Line. The agency said the changes could mean a longer walk, an additional transfer or an altered route for thousands of riders who rely on TriMet to get to work, school, medical appointments and other destinations.

According to TriMet, service will be adjusted on 34 lines beginning Aug. 23, with two lines eliminated entirely due to low ridership. Many of the changes, the agency said, are aimed at improving network efficiency by combining routes or reducing overlap where multiple lines run near each other, while other route updates are intended to maintain service in areas with stronger demand…
