Trial of Portland musician accused of assaulting fed during ICE protest ends in mistrial

A judge declared a mistrial Thursday after a jury couldn’t reach a verdict in an assault case against a Portland musician accused of kicking and biting a federal officer during a protest at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building.

The 12 jurors deliberated for about eight hours – exceeding the day and a half of testimony presented in the case against Oriana Korol, who was playing clarinet with the Unpresidented Brass Band on the day of her arrest last fall.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn A. Rykken said the government intends to retry the single felony charge against Korol. U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut set June 16 as the tentative date for a new trial…
