Driving up or down the stretch of I-35 that passes between Southcross Boulevard and Division Avenue might cause a head or two to turn as Las Cazuelas, a Mexican restaurant of nearly 30 years, has undergone a major, visible change on San Antonio’s Southside.
On February 11, Las Cazuelas unexpectedly announced that it would no longer exist as the restaurant it had been operating as since 1997, sharing that business made a change in management.
“Every meal, every visit, and every memory meant so much to us! As this chapter closes, the restaurant continues under new management,” the business wrote in a Facebook post. “We are grateful for or customers, our community, and the memories created along the way.”
In the months that have passed, Las Cazuelas transformed into a similar but different sort of eatery, taking on the name El Guacamole Mexican Grill. The new identity connects the business at 645 Chalmers Ave. with two other El Guacamole locations spread out across San Antonio…
