A veteran fire district executive with more than three decades on the job has resigned after Mesa police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence while behind the wheel of a taxpayer-funded vehicle. Jeffrey Cranmer, who served as Deputy Chief of Resources for the Superstition Fire & Medical District, submitted his resignation after being placed on administrative leave following the arrest.
Cranmer was taken into custody by Mesa police at an In-N-Out near Signal Butte Road and U.S. 60, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. He was off duty at the time but was operating a district vehicle when the August 28 stop occurred in Mesa, the outlet reported. The intersection sits within a heavily traveled commercial corridor in East Mesa that is currently undergoing major development, including the roughly $150 million Medina Station retail project, and serves as a key transit link between Mesa and Apache Junction, according to CommercialSearch.
Cranmer had accumulated more than 31 years of service with the district before his resignation, having risen through senior executive roles including Battalion Chief and Deputy Chief, per official Superstition Fire & Medical District leadership records. The district placed him on administrative leave pending an investigation before he stepped down, the station’s report noted.
