Part 1: Caddo turns to home incarceration as jail exceeds capacity

SHREVEPORT, La. — In March, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office began releasing certain pre-trial criminal defendants from detention to home incarceration in a move to reduce jail overcrowding.

Any inmate housed at the Caddo Correctional Center who is charged with a misdemeanor and assessed as nonviolent can be screened to determine whether they qualify for the program.

Currently, there are 11 pre-trial inmates incarcerated at home being electronically monitored instead of waiting at the Caddo Correctional Center to resolve their criminal cases, said Assistant Chief Jim Matthews…
