Sheriff warns federal law enforcement grants could be at risk due to MD immigration laws

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Maryland’s Community Trust Act is now law, limiting how local law enforcement can interact with federal immigration authorities. But some sheriffs say the new restrictions could also put federal grant money at risk.

Gov. Wes Moore allowed the bill to become law without his signature after the General Assembly passed the plan on the final day of session. Now, with hundreds of millions of dollars in federal law enforcement grants available, some local leaders worry Maryland agencies could be shut out.
