NYPD taps Staten Island’s top cop to oversee Manhattan post amid ongoing corruption probe

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Amid an ongoing bribery investigation aimed at current and former NYPD officials, a top post in Manhattan was left without a commanding officer. To fill the vacancy, the department has tapped one of Staten Island’s own.

Assistant Chief Melissa Eger, borough commander of Staten Island, will take over as commanding officer of Patrol Borough Manhattan South, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.
