Worcester considers eliminating parking minimums to make way for more housing

In an effort to add more housing, Worcester is considering ending a mandate that requires a certain number of parking spaces be built with new developments.

The Standing Committee on Economic Development will meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday to review the planning board’s recommendation to eliminate or “aggressively reduce” the required number of parking spaces, also known as parking minimums.

The city’s housing production plan, which aims to build more than 12,000 units by 2033, reads that parking minimums are a barrier toward the construction of new houses…
