Boulder County Fair changed its nonprofit booth rules. Longmont VFW didn’t make the cut

Growing attendance and visitor feedback prompted the Boulder County Fair to change how nonprofits participate this year, moving from providing booths to encouraging the organizations to raise money by volunteering to sell beer or to provide an interactive exhibit.

While several organizations took the fair up on its offer to man a beer tent, Longmont’s Longs Peak VFW Post 2601 isn’t happy with the changes and is asking to go back to a traditional booth. The changes, VFW leaders said, mean the organization isn’t part of the fair for the first time in almost 20 years.

“Hopefully next year this will change,” Longmont VFW member Russ Boehm said. “We would like somebody to say you’re right, we made an error, bring your tent.”…
