HENDERSONVILLE – The state will not pursue the death penalty in the case of a Hendersonville man charged with a July killing near Corn Mountain Road, northeast of the city, according to prosecutors.
Ervin Landis, 62, faces a non-capital first-degree murder charge in the shooting of Edward Russell, 63, Assistant District Attorney Michael Van Buren said in an Aug. 13 Henderson County Superior Court hearing.
Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies responded just after 3 a.m. July 1 to find Russell with a gunshot wound near Corn Mountain Road and he later died of his injuries, the Times-News previously reported. Landis was arrested soon afterwards…
