River park path will link downtown and west Modesto. Another upgrade needs money

A paved path could be ready in a year between the downtown and west Modesto portions of Tuolumne River Regional Park.

That half-mile stretch has long had a dirt trail, used by hikers and mountain bicyclists. The project will ease the way for visitors using street bikes, wheelchairs and strollers.

A $2.97 million state grant will cover almost all of the $3.12 million cost, staff members told a City Council committee Tuesday. The full council could award a construction contract after seeking bids later this year…
