Construction crews will soon enter the French Broad River as part of the Interstate 26 Connector project, marking a major step toward building four new bridges that will carry I-26/240 traffic across the river.
The project contractor, Archer-Wright Joint Venture, will begin building a temporary rock causeway in the river within the next month. The causeway will provide access to the river for crews to build foundations for four new bridges that will eventually carry I-26/240 traffic across the French Broad River as part of the project’s final configuration.
NCDOT will monitor water quality and bank stability during construction. The causeway will be removed and the area restored when bridge construction is complete in 2029…
