MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced two expansion projects in the Jackson-metro area.
According to MDOT, crews will widen Interstate 55 from Madison to Gluckstadt and Lakeland Drive from Grants Ferry Road to Highway 471.
MDOT officials said the projects are part of the agency’s capacity projects, which means they will add lanes. Both projects will add one lane on both sides, expanding them from four lanes to six lanes.
The agency expects to break ground on both projects during Spring 2027. Officials said funding from the 2026 Legislative Session will help with the projects. The legislature put $150 million into the capacity program.
