There are more than 6,000 names on the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial, 6,000 heroes from East Tennessee who died in service to our country since World War I. For Memorial Day, volunteers gathered at World’s Fair Park to read each name.
Knox County proclaims appreciation day for local Medal of Honor winner
Retired Master Sergeant Tim K. Bayne, one of the volunteers, said it was an honor to participate. He felt humbled.
“I think it’s most important that we read these names because we should never forget that people died for this country, for our freedoms that we enjoy today,” he said. “They’re real people, you know, that they matter to somebody. They’re husbands and brothers and uncles and grandfathers to somebody. So their lives are important to us.”…
