Teen denied youth status, sentenced in shooting outside HS on Staten Island, 2nd gun incident

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A New Brighton teen accused of helping plan a 2022 shooting outside Tottenville High School has been sentenced in that case, along with another shots fired incident near his home.

Nelson Vanleuvan, 19, was sentenced Tuesday in both cases to up to 7 1/2 years in prison, followed by three years of post-release supervision. In handing down the sentences, Justice Keith E. Brown denied youth-offender status. Vanleuvan was 15 years old at the time of the shooting outside the school.
