Body camera footage played in a Georgia courtroom this week showed a kicked-in front door and seven shell casings scattered inside a Villa Rica home where a man was shot and killed in November 2024. The footage, captured by Villa Rica police officers responding to the scene, was shown to jurors as prosecutors laid out their case against the man accused of the fatal break-in.
The trial centers on 35-year-old Karlton Sirmons of Norcross, according to FOX 5 Atlanta, which reported the body camera video and shell casing count as part of its trial coverage published Friday. Sirmons was arrested after Cobb County Police cornered him following a vehicular chase near Mableton, ending a pursuit that began after he allegedly fled the Villa Rica shooting scene in a Honda SUV.
The shooting happened during an early-morning break-in on November 2, 2024, on Serenity Point Lane, inside the Ashley Highlands subdivision off Conners Road near Mirror Lake, according to 11Alive. That part of Villa Rica sits in Douglas County, though the city itself spans both Douglas and Carroll counties.
